AI Sewing Tip #3: Finding a Pattern Based on Fabric Type
This is the third post in a series of ways to use AI with sewing as a useful tool.
I fell in love with organic cotton risha fabric from Stitch Happens after I made this shirt and pants with it.
I decided that I really needed to find a dress pattern to sew up in this fabric. I used AI to find patterns that would be suitable.
Choose your AI Tool
Go to your AI tool. I use Microsoft Copilot. You could use chatgpt or any others you wish.
Type in the following prompt:
Find a pattern to use with organic cotton risha and tell me how much I will need to purchase to sew the pattern. Width 55 in. Weight 215 gsm.
I found the pattern width and weight online so I included that information. If you don't have it, I wouldn't worry about it.
AI Response:
๐งต Recommended Pattern: Sew Over It Poppy Dress
Style: A-line silhouette with optional sleeves
Skill Level: Confident beginner
Why it works: The structure of Risha cotton
complements the clean lines and gentle drape of this
dress, making it wearable year-round.
๐ Fabric Requirements
For a dress like the Poppy (sizes 8–18):
With sleeves: ~2.2 meters (based on 140 cm width)
Sleeveless: ~1.8 meters
Add 0.3 meters if you want to include pockets or
lengthen the hem
